PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: 15 October 2026
In short: Nexo has no accounts, no servers and no analytics. Your data stays on your Cardputer and your device.
1. Who we are
Nexo is an open-source project by Apiwish Anutravanichkul. This policy explains how the Nexo firmware and companion app (Android and macOS) handle information.
2. Information we collect
None. Nexo does not collect, transmit or sell personal data. There is no account system, no sign-in, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no advertising.
3. Where your data lives
- On the Cardputer: your notes, homework and settings are stored in the device's on-board flash (LittleFS); music lives on the microSD card.
- In the app: the app keeps a local offline cache (notes, homework, settings and your device PIN) on your phone or Mac.
This data never leaves your devices except when you explicitly transfer it between them.
4. Bluetooth
The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy to pair with and sync to your own Cardputer. Bluetooth is used only for direct communication with your device and is gated by a PIN you set on the device.
5. Wi-Fi
To move music or update firmware, the app connects to the access point the Cardputer creates for itself (or you connect manually). Traffic stays on that local network between your phone/computer and the Cardputer; it is not sent over the internet. The Cardputer's optional web interface is served only on this local access point.
6. Update checks
When checking for updates, the app contacts GitHub
(api.github.com and github.com) to read the
latest release and, if you choose to update, to download the installer.
This request is subject to
GitHub's privacy statement.
It contains no personal data from Nexo. You can disable automatic update
checks in the app.
7. Permissions
- Bluetooth — to find and sync with your Cardputer.
- Location (older Android versions) — required by the operating system for Bluetooth scanning; Nexo does not use your location.
- Network / Wi-Fi — to join the Cardputer's access point and to download updates.
- Notifications — to keep the Bluetooth link alive in the background (Android foreground service).
- Install unknown apps (Android) — only when you choose to install an app update.
- Files — only the files you explicitly pick to upload to the device.
8. Children
Nexo collects no data and is suitable for general audiences. Because it stores whatever content you enter, parents and guardians should supervise use by children.
9. Your choices
You can clear any data stored in the app by uninstalling it or clearing its data, and erase on-device data with the device's factory reset. No request to us is needed because we hold none of your data.
10. Changes
We may update this policy; the "last updated" date above will change accordingly.
